AMD PROCESSOR:-
AMD has launched in India the accelerated processing unit (APU) range of fusion microprocessors. The APU combines central processing and graphics processing capabilities into a single chip and brings a supercomputer-like performance to notebooks, netbooks and all-in-one desktops.AMD has introduced the new E-series ‘Zacate’, and C-series ‘Ontario’ APUs that use the Bobcat CPU core. The new APUs offer DirectX 11 graphics, UVD3 video acceleration, 1080p HD playback, 2D conversion to 3D and up to 10hrs battery life depending on system.

“People have high expectations from their daily Internet experience compared to what was required a few years back. The AMD APU has been designed, keeping in mind that watching high-definition videos, uploading photos and playing games are a huge part of an Internet experience,” says Manju Hegde, corporate VP, Fusion Experience Program.

Hegde feels GPUs were underutilised by being used only for games and not for mainstream applications. The AMD APU that combines the GPU and CPU, has been designed to enhance Internet browsing, high-definition video and games. “The kind of super computing which required 50 watt systems can now be done on 9 watt systems. This also means you can carry around your games on your netbook,” Hegde noted.

AMD also promises to increase battery efficiency with its fusion APUs. “The power-saving features of the chip design enable your battery to last for over 10 hours, even while enjoying HD content,” claimed Ravi Swaminathan, MD and regional VP, AMD India . “Moreover, the temperature is kept cool with a thermal envelope,” he added.

AMD’s research and development (R&D) teams in Hyderabad and Bengaluru led the design of the new family of chipsets. AMD is also planning to launch its A-series, which would enable 500 gigaflops of computing power.
